Sharing & share cards

Share within your household, send something to another household, or create a link. Each way of sharing reaches a different audience, described below.

Who sees what

Sharing a task

Select Share on a task to send a link by text or the share sheet. The link needs a sign-in: people in your household open it straight to the task, and the message shows a preview with the task’s title.

Share cards

On a restaurant, wine, watchlist, reading, or recipe item, Share (on iPhone, Share link…) creates a public web page for that item. Anyone with the link can open it. The card shows the item’s photo and details, plus your household’s ratings and reviews of it with each reviewer’s name.

Someone with Gatherby who opens your card can add the item to their own list.

Turning off a share card - A share card link keeps working as long as the item exists. Deleting the item from your list turns the card off.

Sharing a whole list with a link

  1. Open the list’s ⋯ menu and select Share with a link.
  2. Choose View only or Can check off.
  3. Select Create link, then send it.

Anyone with the link can see the list without an account, and with Can check off they can check items off. To stop sharing, open the same screen and select Turn off link; the link stops working. Private lists can’t have a link.

Sharing a private list with household members

This is separate from a list link and doesn’t make anything public. On the web, open your private Shopping list and select the 🔒 line at the top (“Only you can see this · tap to share”). Choose the household members who can see it, then select Done. Select the line again to change who’s included.

Posting to Discover

On a restaurant, wine, show, or book, select ✨ Post to Discover to recommend it to households that follow you. To take it back, select Remove from Discover. See Discover & Browse.

Sending to a connected household

If your household is connected to another household on Discover, you can send them a list item in the app: select 🎁 Send to and their household name. It lands in their Shared with you, where they can Add it to their matching list or Dismiss it. No link is created.

Applies to the iPhone app and the web, except where noted. Reviewed October 26, 2026.
