Restaurants
Keep the places you want to try and a record of where you’ve been and what you thought. Add a name and Gatherby looks up available details, such as cuisine, address, hours, and a reservation link.
Adding a restaurant
- Type the name, for example “Lilia”. Gatherby looks it up in the background and fills in the card.
- Share a link from Maps, Resy, or a review, and Gatherby matches it to the restaurant.
- 📷 Add a photo of the sign or menu.
Lookups use Google Maps Platform and Foursquare. Your household has a monthly limit on automatic lookups; past it, the restaurant is still added and its details fill in later.
If the card is wrong
- Open the restaurant’s card.
- If Gatherby matched the wrong place, select Not this one? and choose the right one. If it couldn’t find the place, select Couldn’t find this automatically and search for it.
- If details are out of date, select ✨ Refresh lookup.
Some places have no hours or reservation link available. Those rows are left off the card.
What’s on the card
- Cuisine and a short description
- What kind of place it is. The list groups restaurants by cuisine.
- Address
- Select it to open directions in Maps.
- 🗓 Reserve a table
- A link to Resy, OpenTable, or Tock, when one is found.
- Hours
- Today’s hours and whether it’s open now, when Google Maps has them.
- Ratings
- Ratings from the web, plus your household’s own stars.
To try and Been
Checking a restaurant off marks it as visited. It doesn’t remove it. Today’s date is saved as your visit, and the restaurant moves to the Been view. You can also select 🍽 Mark as been on the card. The filter at the top switches between:
- To try
- Places you haven’t been yet. This is the default view.
- Been
- Places you’ve eaten, sorted by your household’s average rating.
- All
- Every restaurant on the list.
Tags, such as a neighborhood or a town, make a long list easier to browse.
Your reviews
Each adult can leave their own star rating and a written review. Everyone in the household can see them, and you can edit yours at any time. A review stays with the restaurant, so it appears on every list that restaurant is on.
Check-ins
When you check in at a place on your Restaurants list, Gatherby marks it as visited and saves the date. If you check in at a restaurant, café, bar, or similar food spot that isn’t on a list yet, Gatherby adds it to your Restaurants list and looks it up. Other kinds of places aren’t added. To turn this off, open Settings and turn off Add new food places to your restaurants list.
Sharing a restaurant
Select 📤 Share this card to create a web page for the restaurant that you can send to a friend. It shows the photo, the description, the ratings, and your household’s star ratings and written reviews with each reviewer’s name. Anyone with the link can see it. If the recipient uses Gatherby, they can add the restaurant to their own list.
When a place closes
The ⊘ button marks a restaurant permanently closed. It moves to a Closed group and leaves your shortlist, and your visit record stays.
