Check-ins

Share a place you’ve arrived with your household and keep a record of your visits.

A check-in records one place at one time. Your household sees the places you check in, not your location as you move around.

Checking in

  1. Select 📍 Check in.
  2. If asked, allow Gatherby to use your location. Gatherby shows places nearby and places you’ve been before. To find nearby places, your location is sent to Gatherby and our place-search provider. If location is off, type the place’s name instead.
  3. Pick a place, or type a new one and select Check in at “…”.
  4. If you like, add a star rating, a note, and who’s with you.
  5. Select Check in (on the web, Check in here).

Private check-ins

On iPhone, turn off Share with family before you check in. A private check-in is saved in your own history only: your household isn’t notified, and nothing is added to a list or the calendar.

What a shared check-in does

Check-in settings

In Settings, under Check-ins:

Add new food places to your restaurants list
Turn this off if you don’t want new food places added automatically.
Suggest check-ins when you arrive (iPhone)
When you stop somewhere you’ve been before, or at a place nearby, Gatherby asks “Check in at …?” on your iPhone and Apple Watch. This needs Location set to Always, and it applies only to the iPhone where you turn it on.

These settings change where check-ins are filed, not who sees them. Your household is still notified of each shared check-in.

Delete a check-in

On iPhone (in the next app update):

  1. Go to Settings, then Your check-ins.
  2. Swipe left on the check-in and select Delete.

The check-in leaves your history and the calendar, and the visit it added to a restaurant is removed. The restaurant stays on your list. You can delete only your own check-ins.
