Groceries
Keep one shared grocery list for your household. Add what you need, check items off at the store, and reset the list for the next trip. Whoever is shopping can use their phone while everyone else adds from home.
Adding items
- Type it, for example “almond milk”. Gatherby corrects the spelling and files it under an aisle (Dairy, Produce, Household, and so on). If it lands in the wrong aisle, open the item and change its category.
- 📷 Add a photo of a product or of a handwritten or printed list. Gatherby reads the items it can and adds each one, grouped by aisle. Check the result and fix anything it misread.
- Ask Siri. Say “Add to Gatherby”, then tell Siri what you need. Gatherby files it as a grocery item, a task, or an appointment and tells you which.
- From a recipe. Save the recipe to your Recipes list, then select 🛒 Add to grocery list on its card.
Photos and typed items are sent to our AI provider to read and sort them. They aren’t used to train AI models.
At the store
Mark each item as bought, unavailable, or not needed this trip. An item can be in only one of these states at a time.
- ✓ Bought
- Select the circle next to the item. On iPhone, you can also touch and hold the item, then tap Got it.
- ⊘ Not available
- The store didn’t have it. On the web, click ⊘ on the item. On iPhone, swipe right and tap Not available. The item moves to the Unavailable group so you know it was handled.
- − Not this trip
- You don’t need it this time. On the web, click − on the item. On iPhone, swipe left and tap Not needed. The item moves to the Not this trip group and stays on your list for next time.
The trip is done when every item is bought, unavailable, or set aside.
Shopping together
- When you get to the store, select 🛒 Start shopping. The other adults in your household get a notification that you’ve started.
- As you shop, each item you check off, mark unavailable, or set aside sends them a notification, such as “Kris: “Milk” was unavailable”. That gives someone at home a chance to suggest a substitute.
- When you’re done, select Finish (on iPhone, Finish shopping). The other adults get a summary of how many items you got and how many were unavailable.
Only the active shopper’s changes send these notifications. Checking items off at home doesn’t notify anyone.
Reusing the list
Your Groceries list stays from week to week, so you don’t make a new one. These controls are at the bottom of the list on the web and in the list’s menu on iPhone:
- ↺ Reset
- Unchecks every item and clears this trip’s Not available and Not this trip marks. It also clears who each item was assigned to. Every item stays on the list. On iPhone: Reset (uncheck all).
- ✓ Mark complete
- Checks off every item at once. On iPhone: Mark all complete.
- ⤓ Reload from template
- Appears only on a list made from a template. It erases the current list, including items you added by hand, and refills it from the template. Gatherby asks you to confirm first.
To change what a template contains, open Settings → Lists → Templates on the web.
